Potential Solutions: It appears our community water system must replace Well #4 because of the nitrates contamination. This was the recommendation of Mr. Abdel Shurbaji of the California Department of Public Health, Division of Drinking Water and Environmental Management. Mr. Shurbaji inspected our system on July 23, 2007, after the cycle test results showed a high nitrate level averaging 58 mg/L. We predict from past experience a new well would need to be approximately 450 feet deep. Funding is also being requested for the pump, required electrical controls, utility pole, and necessary piping to connect the system. A new well is important in order to maintain our engineered GPM requirements. We are also requesting funding to move at least one and possibly two septic tanks which may be causing contamination.
